Behind the Lens
I’ve photographed Lake Eola countless times over the years, and every visit is different. Sometimes it’s the skyline, sometimes the light, and occasionally everything comes together at once.
On this evening, the last light of the day was reflecting across the lake when a lone swan drifted into the frame. The scene only lasted a few moments before the light faded, but it was enough to make this one of my favorite photographs from Lake Eola.
Looking back now, it has a little more significance. Since this image was made, the swans have been relocated following the avian flu outbreak. What felt like an ordinary evening at the time now captures a scene that no longer exists in quite the same way.
