Behind the Lens
When I made this photograph, I was simply drawn to the contrast between the roller coaster, the beach, and the warm evening light.
What I didn’t realize at the time was that I was photographing the final chapter of a ride with a long history. Originally built in 1969, the Sand Blaster operated at several amusement parks before eventually finding its home on the Daytona Beach Boardwalk. Shortly after this photograph was taken, it was removed, making this image a small piece of Daytona Beach history.
